Visa & Master Card blocked Payments for steam games.

Alt text: Fancy guy with Visa/Mastercard logo on his head in suit says: I do not think people should be allowed to buy these type of games. itch.io and steam reply: nobody is talking to you. Just process the payment, payment processor.

Your daily reminder that Mastercard was already instituting ridiculous requirements for adult content sites, like pre-approval of content, even before the current NSFW game removals in response to Collective Shout. No matter what they want to try and claim, they’re complicit in this.

Indeed! They’re in the spotlight now but they’ve been fucking with the adult industry for decades. It’s because of them that there are rules as to what can and can not be filmed. There are also banned words that can’t be used in the film or film’s description. This list of rules and words grows more and more over the years. Fuck visa/mastercard!

I could accept the porn restrictions, because there is a genuine risk of real harm if adequate safeguards are not put on porn sites. Plus porn isn’t really art (don’t drag me into that debate, if you disagree just say you disagree).

With games, there is next to no risk of real harm and games are art. It is orders of magnitude worse.

A payment processor should have no say in whether I can spend my money on something. They should be following the law and that’s it. If there is no law saying what I want to purchase is illegal, then they should STAY THE FUCK OUT OF IT. PERIOD.

They shouldn’t, but I could accept it because their actions when it came to porn sites probably did protect people (or could’ve, at least). Targetting Steam is not something I can accept.
