There is an app called Kiwix if you use Linux (I think it’s a flatpak) or WSL for Windows! :) It lets you download different languages and sizes. I just learned you can use graphical apps for WSL now, wew.

That is cool WSL accomodates graphical apps, but after the recall Windows feature that snapshots everything, I’m about to remove Windows from my last computer that still has it. I really just need to figure out if my Steam save files will transfer to Linux since my Elden Ring character is level 220 or something crazy. I can’t even use WSL at work any longer because security locked us out of admin permissions. Boooo!

They absolutely should, if now, you can probably run it in a VM shame box. I have a little windows set up on mine for some specialist apps. When games are installed via Proton on Linux, they usually are set up to mimic the file structure for windows.

Could I use this to set a monthly job that runs and updates my local copy? Does it download/update changes made since my last sync or would it just redownload and replace the previous months in this situation?

I just downloaded the 23G file or whatever. If there is a way to checksum portions of it and run a script against the online checksum to detect differences, that might be one way. The only problem is that it is now being modified for political purposes. This version might be the best we will ever get. I almost wish we could download a pre-2020 version. It would eliminate both the slop and any influence that came after the sudden wealth gap increase that occurred during the pandemic.
