The old school libertarians - God bless them. Their movement being co-opted and then completely (Inserted word I can’t think of for a fierce animal having its balls removed and its nature reversed) by the Republican party has got to be one of the bigger feats of political misdirection I’ve witnessed in my lifetime.

The movement wasn’t co-opted, only the word. We mostly call ourselves anarchists, very few will use the term libertarian still.

Edit: Oh you mean the “don’t tread on me” crowd, yeah those aren’t old school libertarians they’re the same right wing chuds as today.

Agreed, the Tea Party Republicans squashed the Libertarians very easily, at just the right moment for maximum effect (post 9-11).

They’re really not as incompetent as they seem; this move revealed the true political acumen of the Republican party… and most people have zero idea anything even happened.

Ross Perot was a little too successful for their liking, and they were ready.

I’ve never met anyone aware of this on Lemmy, hey buddy I see you.

I don’t really feel bad for them. To my knowledge most of them hopped on board.

Most American libertarians aren’t even familiar with voluntarism.

Really the same picture, but more likely to be from the game then the massive injustices piling up. Kinda makes a point about the american people there.

It actually is constitutional. The whole point in the constitution is to give the public the rights to fight against tyranny. If the police are tyrannical to the people (they are) then this is totally fine.

You might want to revisit the history of the document, relative to what was occurring at the time

As we learned from marx, our material conditons should bias our structure of how we proceed. Not those of 250 year old skeletons.

If they want to act like kings, we will treat them as such 🍽️
