I know it’s wrong to force a mentally ill person to compare their suffering to others. When I tell my doctor how horrible my mental health is, what the symptoms are, and they tell me to “think about the casualties of war in Iran”, I feel horrible. I would never ever do this to a person who’s suffering from mental illness. They probably already have enough on their plate as it is, and shoving the problems of the world in their face at that moment doesn’t help anybody. Is that it? I’d appreciate your input on how to verbalize, as pedagogically as possible, why it is wrong, or why it can be wrong.

Your “doctor” is trying to force you to feel empathy for others in (supposedly) worse situations than you when you’re already suffering enough as it is - and doing so while seriously lacking empathy for you. Screw that asshole - they should have their degree revoked because they obviously didn’t learn what they were supposed to.

Thanks! <3 This felt really good to hear! T_T I am thinking about reporting them to the county, who in my country is responsible for health care.

By the way, I recently learned, that doctors receive MINIMAL training in how to talk to patients and that those that are perceived as good doctors are preceived as such because they were already good listeners and empathetic people from the start.
