Google replaced pushing Git tags for certain source code with obtaining source code via Google Drive after making a request through Google Forms. It's completely ridiculous and they've gradually become very slow at handling requests. They're in clear violation of the GPLv2 now.

    I found the wording to be confusing, but if it helps anyone else, I think the situation is

    • before, they used to be able to get source code from Google with Git tags
    • now you need to get it through google drive, after requesting it through google forms
    • this is a ridiculous process, and over time they’ve gotten slower and slower at processing it, which is in violation of GPLv2

      Git tags are just markers. If tags are the only thing that moved you can still access the repo, right? Just no version tags.
