I always thought my algorithm was filtering the rightwing media and I am aware that there’s a giant traffic happening on the other side.

I was checking on Tommy robinson’s “documentaries” and noticed that they were hosted on rumble. Heard the site before but never bothered to check tbh.

And it’s as you’ve expected. On the paper it’s like YouTube rejects. It’s spitting out only political crap. It’s scarily what exactly same formula I am seeing on my feed. and I’m sure your feed too. People reacting to unintelligible people, roasting them, a face watching trump and wowing or aoc and mocking them. The shit are quite low blow. Ofc they are- but the point I wanna make is the view counts on the page. Some of them are millions. That isn’t a “YouTube reject” number. That IS YouTube number. So these websites are probably funded by tech giants and at this point I feel like we’re trying to fight a war already lost. This is about fighting rich people who can “purchase” power with 0 money. For f sake, Elon literally purchased afd to win in Germany.

I am starting to think that we should be using these racist platforms more. To see and be aware what the fuck is happening outside our filter bubble. I don’t know how effective that would be though (because at the end of the day politics are just attention economy rather than prosperity)

A key lever in the extreme right propaganda is selling the idea that these views are widely held by the ‘silent majority’, or just ‘common sense’. Those view counts aren’t real. Look at how many people actually show up to the real-life events compared with the noise you see online. The people who do show up always look surprised by how outnumbered they are by counter-protesters.

Echo chambers like GB news want viewers to simultaneously feel weak and insecure whilst offering a false avenue to empowerment. Engaging with their material will make their influence seem much larger than it is.

I wouldn’t waste your time on those platforms. You would have a much bigger impact by helping your local community, talking to real people about real problems and helping to fix them. People turn to fascism out of desperation that their shit lives are never going to change unless they force that change.

How are they getting elected if they’re minority? I’m really starting to believe they’re not minority.

It actually feels like they’re playing to marginalise people who didn’t had any political stance which might be the majority.

It’s not just one reason, but…

        • not everyone who can vote goes out to vote in every election
        • a large portion of voters don’t have “brand loyalty” and will vote for whichever platform they think would be most beneficial to them in the moment
        • the moderate democrats have been depressing their own turnout for the past 10 years or so by not offering anything to their constituents (their argument has literally been “nothing needs to change, everything is perfect”). They’re attempting to use coercion to gain votes instead of offering material change, and alienating their base in the process
        • the republicans have been offering change, they said “I will fix the economy” (they were lying, obviously, but the point is they were selling a narrative people wanted to buy). They excited and grew their base
        • conservatives Are not the majority, rather the democrats are choosing to jettison the vast majority of their base to keep their shitty stance on 90/10 issues like Zionism and healthcare reform and labor reform. There are enough voters available for the democrats to win, they just need to choose to use a winning strategy. Right now the DNC only wants to win on its own terms, they need to become ok with winning on the terms of the voters, and then they’ll actually win.

If people stay in their echo chambers where they feel safe they learn nothing. Go there, create content, disrupt the echo

As much as I believe that culture will inform political leaning - getting stuck posting online does too little. We have to meet in real life again and move stuff in real life again. That’s where the very fragile bodies of the billionaires are, not online.
