I think graphics are less of a factor in how games age than the controls are. I had a friend recently ask me what Zelda game he should play for his first one. I recommended Ocarina of Time. He couldn’t get past two dungeons. I said yeah the graphics are a little dated. He said I don’t care about graphics but the controls are awful.
So my next recommendation for him was Link to the Past for a more classic Zelda experience, or Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom for a more modern and polished open world that doesn’t follow the classic formula.
Interesting! Yeah the early 3d era had very unforgiving controls all things considered, usually as a result of camera systems not reaching maturity. You sorta have to plan your movement around what it’s good at and lots of newer age gamers aren’t keen on what can feel like a big step backwards. They might like SOH better though! Much more customisable controls and camera
