For a long time now, I have been obsessed with the idea of revealing to people a simply insane masterpiece from the era of games on push-button telephones.
The game is inspired by stylish sources, Silent Hill, Lynch, Forbidden Siren
This game is “Nowhere”, it is written in Java, I made a complete transfer of the code logic to Unreal, and decided to try to restore the scene of the original game
This is just amazing, I can’t take my eyes off it
Why not godot tho? Fyi, i dont know anything about game development specifically so this is an actual question, tho i still prefer open source so yeah
Well, it’s because I work in Unreal. But if you need a more detailed answer, I like the way volumetrics look in Unreal, it emulates a real camera with its highlights and everything else. And the picture that I imagine in my head is easier for me to realize in Unreal.
You just jogged my memory about a surprisingly complex Metal Gear game I had on my Nokia N95… It was in third-person side view (Shinobi style) and some stages had you piloting a drone to areas you couldn’t reach? Looking back I can’t find any reference to it… maybe it wasn’t an official Metal Gear game but some sort of “off brand” game that was implied to be like Metal Gear?
It was an interesting era of surprisingly capable games that is mostly lost to time as the iPhone came not long after and dominated the scene.
This game looks cool, will check back in later!
For me, any mention of Java games brings back a ton of memories. Yes, it is a really interesting era. Developers used many tricks and tweaks to optimize games. The game you mentioned looks more like a NES game than a Java game.
It does look pretty nice.
Any chance we get to play this port?
Yes, but after some time, hopefully in a couple of months
I will definitely finish this port, it’s my ode to this game, I like it too much to abandon it
Awesome! Great work! Could you please post an update here when you launch it?
I will shout about this everywhere I can 😄
