    firejail might help by sandboxing said applications from access to bluetooth and wifi. That’s not to say that the app will run without connectivity.

    Who knows what steam will change in their business model when Gabe is no longer in charge.

    I’ve been buying my favorite games on gog and downloading backups just in case the world slips further down the shit slide so at least I can enjoy them.

    I think there will be an increasing need for piracy for privacy in the future.

      I also wonder about this. People love to praise Steam, but they make it clear that you don’t own your games. One day they could go off the deep end like Playstation

        The ones I buy are. I’m not really a social butterfly so I don’t ever play games that require internet. I did buy borderlands series before the went all fucking dickhead kernel level anticheat but never once played with another human. Same with ARK survival. Just never saw the appeal.

        I like solo gaming. I’m sure there are exceptions but i just dont play thise kind of games.

        Not positive but I think you can lock games to a version. There is an option in heroicGameLauncher that says ignore updates. And since the version I have aechived are for example pre skyrim/fallout AE versions they should never in theory force an update. This means that I dont ever have to worry about mods breaking. No addressLib, looksMenu, buffout, screenArcher breaking.

        Still experimenting with the best hack to add games to steam so I can use my steam controller with games from gog. Thinking that I could just add the game and have create a new prefix then delete the main parts of the steam prefix and symlink the heroic prefix to the steam prwfix. Thinking im goingbtobtry that with Doom Eternal. Although I’ve been sidetracked on a new dirty playthrough of fo4 ATM.

        All the games I play on the regular work great though. Cyberpunk2077, skyrim, fallout 3-4 including NV, BG3, Thief (1,2,3), Dishonored (1,2,3) etc… All work great.

        I love steam! Wasnt always so! When it first came out I fucking hated them! But they have done so much for the progression of gaming on linux that I have come to admire their commitment to my OS of choice. I do fear the day when they have a new CEO and dont really trust any corporation to make any decision that doesn’t eventually fuck over the sonsumer in the long run.

        I dont really mind giving GOG $ as I believe their goal of preserving Good Old Games is a good goal and one I can get behind. I feel really good about spending my $ with them. I bought BG3 on a super sale on steam and always regretted not paying full price for that fucking awesome game. Made sure I paid full price on GOG to give Larian what they deserve.

        I guess my long drunk, rambling reply at 1:30 in the morning would be yes, maybe. Depending on the game.

          I prefer solo play as well, but was under the impression that a lot of games still need an internet connection, just to be annoying.

          I’m just using steam at the moment because they are bloody amazing for Linux, I have never tried heroic, or anything else on linux, aside from emulation which is a very logical thing to have set up these days.

          I should be supporting gog, but they annoy me by being stupid every time I try.

            I’ve installed games from GOG from my NAS on both the Steam Deck and on Fedora. Some didn’t have access to the internet while it was going (I wanted to test this exact scenario you asked about) and they all worked just fine! :-]

      As Clippy said, Automated Content Recognition. It essentially scans the screen for what’s going on. One use case would be if it sees product placement in a game, the next time ACT thinks a loading screen is up, it can show you an ad for that product. Or just generally showing ads when it thinks nothing is happening, I.e. I’ve paused the game, or I’m loading a new zone, or my multiplayer match just ended.
