It’s clear who the victim is. That being said, nothing is worth brain damage and permanent partial paralysis. There are crazy people out there. Always try to deescalate. Sometimes it’s just better to let the idiot have his way.
Suggesting people have basic situational awareness is not victim blaming.

Look, yeah, it’s not the victim’s fault he was assaulted, of course not. You should be focusing on the comments that are saying a variation of “Well, he shouldn’t have been in the guy’s way, then.” Now that is victim blaming.
All’s this guy said was if some dude comes up on you that hot, it’s in your own best interest to take action to defend yourself or flee. Once you are accosted in an aggressive manner like that, it’s no longer about assigning blame. You are already a victim of assault. It’s not your fault. But the only remaining questions is: which category of victim do you want to be? The one that got a scare from a bully and that’s not cool, or the kind that needs a fucking physical therapist teach you to fucking walk again?
“Basic situational awareness” my ass. Driver went from 0 to 100. Cyclist basically got sucker punched. Driver could have grabbed the bike to move it, or backed up his car a little, or any other number of things besides crash out. Guy is a danger to society and needs to be in jail.
You also should consider not waiting for a likely attacker to attack you. You attack first or flee
