I largely agree, but I don’t think people actually need to have an “other” to hate. I suspect it’s an easily activated community-level defense mechanism, if that makes sense. One that’s easily a used by manipulative people.
I’m just trying to figure it if there’s an evolutionarily-selected use for having manipulative power-seeking types in our populations, or if they truly are more analogous to a parasitic mutation of a more conventional personality type.

I think their world view just needs more information. Bill Gates is a horrible person, who has had an excellent PR team whitewashing his name for at least a decade. And unlike Elon Musk, he doesn’t step out from behind the PR team’s cover.
We just need to keep bringing it to people’s attention.

My post was a response to all the “it’s still just murder!” comments; because per your first source, Italian domestic violence does largely target women, and that does need addressed.
But it sounds like your problem with this legislation is that the government is using it to prop themselves up and make themselves look virtuous while they target other disadvantaged populations. Would you mind expanding on that? My knowledge of Italian current events is woefully lacking!
I’m reading a lot of responses here that seem to rhyme with the “White lives matter!” responses to the BLM movement.
As was the case then, what seems to be getting missed by those saying this is the context. Italy has a major issue with domestic violence, including spousal murder. From the sound of it, it’s usually women who are the victims. Thus, a new law to target wife abusers specifically.
There may be some merit to debating whether this is an effective move or not, I’m not up on my research there; but let’s not deny that they see a need, and are attempting to address it.
Along with the world building communities already mentioned, this just sounds like how GMs (and authors) come up with their content.

The US probably has more people trying to get more money than other places due to cultural issues; but even as many people as do want more money, it seems rare to want others to have less.
Speaking for myself, I just want money to make sure that food, shelter, and medical needs are taken care of for my family. Beyond that, I actually don’t want more than what I have.
Weren’t some of the US helicopters that were captured in Ukraine remotely disabled? I seem to remember a Russian general having a hissy fit about it early in the invasion.

Right, but in the daytime, the portion of sunlight that is scattered on the way through the atmosphere to a given spot is partially made up for by sunlight that was scattered to that spot away from other areas, which wouldn’t happen under this scheme.
I’m curious how much scattering occurs - I have no idea how to find or model that.

I’m not sure which episode that one is! I was thinking of a Next Generation episode named “Rascals”, episode seven of season six. Captain Picard and three others from the Enterprise suffer a transporter accident that de-ages them back to children.
I’ve always loved the gadgeteer/super-genius trope. Iron Man, the Tinker types from Worm, Girl Genius’s Sparks, etc. I always found something appealing to the idea that they can do anything eventually, but they have to work their way to it - they have to think, put in effort, adapt to pitfalls, then get an awesome payoff.
They all seem to have something they specialize in too; so for a specialty, I’ll go for movement enhancements. Flight packs, powered exoskeletons, custom vehicles, etc.
