  • I also use Tailscale.

It’s fair to say that I don’t really know what I’m doing, so am picking my way through the world of self-hosting one lesson at a time, but even with that in mind, I’ve found Tailscale an absolute breeze to set up, even if I still don’t fully understand how it all works, and what it can all do.

In short, I have my server at home as part of my tailnet. I’ve also installed it on my Hetzner VPS, which is running YunoHost. Within YunoHost I’ve set up a bunch of redirects which take the Tailscale ips of my various services and turn them into URLs.

So in essence, my Navidrome server goes from being http://100.111.11.1:4533/ to navidrome.mysite.co.ck.

I’ve got Navidrome, Immich, Home Assistant, Invidious, and Jellyfin running like that, and as far as I can tell I’ve not had any security issues at all.

  • Took delivery of a Pixel 9 last Thursday after 16 years of iPhones. Within an hour of delivery I had it on Graphene and after a few days of VEEEEERY steep learning curve I’m really enjoying using it.

I have absolutely no idea how any of the sandboxing stuff works, and could stand to have fewer notifications warning me what the system is doing, but overall it’s pretty straightforward.

  • As someone who’s made a number of podcasts on and off over the years since 2007, much of this post resonates.

However, I take solace in thinking that a podcast is just an extension of a broadcast; where a broadcast is, well, broad, a podcast is a self contained…cast. In a pod. Broadcasting covers audio and video, so it figures that podcasting would as well.

With that in mind, my own style of podcasting, and my preferred format is personal stories. I love podcasts that are by people in their bedrooms talking about their lives, or by journalists who talk to regular folk. Regardless of what Spotify do, that style will always be out there, available on an RSS feed.

I don’t use Spotify, I don’t use YouTube. If I can’t get it in my app then I don’t listen to it. And that’s OK.

I really need to get back into it though. I used to love making them.

  • I think most of the ones I usually mention in threads like this have been covered, but a glance through hasn’t shown me

    The Blindboy Podcast

I’ll admit that this one may take a minute to really get, but once it locks in you’ll love it forever.

It’s basically just an Irish author, comedian, and former rapper telling stories, talking about mental health (he also has a masters in psychology), and interviewing people. One week he’ll be interviewing a couple of lads about insects, the next he has Cillian Murphy on. Last week was an hour about how he ended up in an office canteen covered in black hair dye, holding a bag of lemons.

It’s a wonderful podcast hug every week, and I can’t recommend it enough.
