It’s true but weak at the same time:
- Have you read bible/quran and the other books in christianity/islam? No? Then you can’t criticize it!
- Have you read at least some books about astrology?
- Have you read books about flat Earth?
- Have you read Mein Kampf?
- … and so on
It’s true that if you want to have a deep down discussion about Marxism, you need to read the book, there’s no way around it. But at the same time it’s unrealistic to expect that most people will read at least some books for every ideology to form an opinion
I think the meme is attempting to disparage the “ungratefulness” of present day liberals in these FSU countries
Yes, well this is basically Russian
diplomacypropaganda 101 - “I did this and that for you and now you’re ungrateful”. Similar stuff abusing husband says to abused wife. Basically if russians helped you in any way in history, you’re supposed to be their vasal until the end of the universe, there’s no expiring date on that. It’s abusive and disgusting
Exactly, I pointed it out because soviets often try to steal all the achievements of the country - same as in this meme, a horde of russians came and built for poor, dumb baltic people all the stuff. In reality, it’s much more complex and those constructions were built by local workers, local architects, etc. With russian money I guess but that begs the question - who should get credit for those buildings then?
Who built those hospitals, schools, libraries? Russians or the people of baltic countries?
This. To put it simply, people respond better to what’s familiar and to what has a clear goal. F.e. if you’re about to open a restaurant, don’t sell power tools in it. If you want to sell powertools, create a separate store

But I can buy anything with fiat curency and with bitcoin I can basically buy nothing. And I never will be able probably, bitcoin is too slow to be used as an actual curency to buy common things like groceries
The opposite, I always sleep with blanket on even if I don’t want to. In summer I fall asleep with blanket on my side and wake up fully covered in blanket. And sweating like a pig
I suppose Voyager but I still use Sync. And don’t call me Newbie

Yeah, I canceled my subscription like 2 years ago, loosing my prize of 30% discount in the process (it was a thing since I had HBO GO). I don’t know if it’s a regional thing but there was just nothing new or interresting there. I remember just constant superheroes and Harry Potter. Went for Netflix and never looked back. So, good luck I guess, hopefully they change
EfreetSK@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Max pulling THIS shit every time I finish watching Last Week TonightEnglish1010·6 months agoI’m jumping into downvote pool but yolo - I kind of like Bill Maher. I don’t agree with him on everything, let’s say I disagree with like 30% of his points. But rest of it is kind of on point? And that’s fine, I don’t have to agree with people on everything. Actually that’s one of the points I liked from him - to learn to disagree. In today’s polarized world that’s a surprisingly refreshing idea. On the other hand I fundamentally disagree with him on Covid-19. So yeah. Also I find myself laughing at his jokes quite a lot, he has good writers imo
How can I contribute? Just making a pull request?
to perpetuate backwards gender roles
I never even suggested that. Where did you get that from? All I’m saying is, people in power aren’t your friends.
Although is it a good thing that me and my wife work like crazy to keep our family going? Is this really what life is about? I’d love to be stay at home dad, yet I can’t
I literally said it’s a positive thing, just that motivation of people in power is cynical. Also I didn’t mention communism, I meant it in general regardless of regime
Maybe a bad choice of words on my part, maybe I should write “not because it’s right, but because it doubles the workforce”
Although whether “double the workforce” is good or bad, I’d keep that for a discussion, see my other comment for more info: https://lemmy.world/comment/16185467
You could say that’s all that mattress? … I…I show myself out
