It’s not the OS that need to be supported it’s the phone who’s manufacturer isn’t contractually bound by Google to implement developer verification for blocking installation, otherwise they lose access to Google’s proprietary suite including Play Store.
James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Privacy@lemmy.ml•yt: Which method is best for privacy?English1·19 hours agoIf you’re only watching subscriptions and not scrolling the generated feeds, you could presumably run tubearchivist through a VPN and then watch via Jellyfin or Plex (there are plugins).
It will not only be private but it has sponsorblock.

What is your recommendation, and why?English1·19 hours agoOk thanks, as someone else explained to me the real issue is that Google is blocking device makers from allowing other OSs to be installed (but oddly Google devices aren’t among them).
It seems fairphone is the only option right now but Graphene doesn’t have a release for them.

I just assumed if you had an ARM computer you could install an OS the same way if you have a larger computer like a laptop you can.
So adjusting the question- where in your opinion should I put money? Fairphone? I notice Graphene doesn’t have a release for their devices.

I fully agree with this comment. Aurora (or Fedora Kinoite, very similar) is the first Linux I have been able to use full time. It should feel familiar and like a breath of fresh air to a longtime windows user. Immutability allows me to tinker without feeling overwhelmed.
Haven’t tried Bazzite but my understanding is that it works just fine as a deskop OS too!

James R Kirk@startrek.websiteto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•FFS Plex, the server is on my local networkEnglish2165·5 days agoidk I find $2/month to be very reasonable. I don’t feel squeezed.
EDIT: Just to be clear there is no amount of condescending replies form trilby wearing neckbeard keyboard warriors that will change my opinion.

Wow, 7tb for $21/month. That’s much better than I’ve been seeing.
Problem with that is there is no backup in case of flood/fire/tornado etc.
Yeah it sucks because Microsoft charges $10/mo for 6tb.
Anyone know of a good managed hosting (or vps) for Immich that doesn’t break the bank? I have about 5TB of photos/videos and I don’t feel safe without a remote backup. I played with self hosting and I really (really) like Immich but I keep Google photos/Drive just to ensure I won’t lose anything.
It doesn’t hurt to be thorough but FWIW they say it will be deleted:
