My logic (I don’t live in the us but for the sake of argument, let’s pretend I do) is that if a politician can commit a livestreamed genocide, and they win the election, it signals to politicians that there is no line they can cross that will make their campaign unviable.

It would be more ideal if the Democrats could have been punished for their war mongering years ago, but you never punish your representatives for crossing even the most egregious possible line, then you truly don’t have any power over them and have fundamentally given up.

If tommorow, even 10% of the dems indicated in polls that they would not vote for kamala because of gaza, it would force the DNC to take a stronger stance on the issue because the race is too tight. If this had happened many months ago, the Democrats could have been forced in giving concessions. But the Democrat voter base has made sure that the demmocrat party has no need to give concessions. They have used themselves as meat waves to ensure that the genocide can continue smoothly.

There is a strong chance that even if Biden Kamla wins the election, the GOP will simply pull a coup like they did in 2000, or tried in 2021. The dems will almost certainly do nothing to resist, and may in fact even willingly hand over power like they did in 2000.

Even if we are under US hegemony, we don’t have a horse in the race. US foreign policy is dependent on the decades of built up institutions and material forces beyond any individual’s control. There is no meaningful difference depending on who is president besides optics.

This is happening right now under Biden. Casualties in Gaza are estimated to be on the order of 200,000 (the official numbers have stayed around 40,000 for so long now because the health ministry’s capabilities have been decimated). Protestors are being beating, not just in the US tbf, also across the whole of the “democratic” and “free” west. Ukraine has been utterly failed by the western powers who have opposed both a peaceful settlement to the conflict or fully committing. Once the war ends, it doesn’t matter if Biden or Trump is in charge. Ukraine will be looted again just like Russia in the 1990s.

There were plenty of mildly progressive candidates that could have done things in power were modern America not a neoliberal hellhole. Beanie, AOC, the squad, Jill stien, Claudia de la cuz. Those are the current ones. Going further back, people like gore or nader could have played the role. But all of these people either got shafted through institutional factors or got cooped and forced to water down even their milquetoast radicalism. Many of these people were neutered by the Democrats.

On the movement level, the Democrats coopted, neutered then mutilated the corpse of the BLM social unrest in 2020, which could have been used to otherwise fuel a lot of progressive changes. Instead, the dems not only killed it, but poured salt on the wounds by increasing police budgets nationwide and even helping to build cop cities and expanding surveillance now!

The fact that the Democrats are less rabid than the Republicans does not make them easier enemies to deal with, but more dangerous. They have more patience and play the long game.
