This post goes against the community guidelines, please remove it
Edit: you can disagree, but it still goes against rule 2 of this community and I’m so sick of having political photos everywhere. There are tons of political communities already, go post there please
They are “on their side” when it’s in their interest to do so. Which, bluntly, is true for almost all people. Absolute altruism–doing a ‘good’ thing for which you receive absolutely no reward (including public recognition or a sense of smug superiority) at all–is so rare as to be extinct. That’s how politics is always played, my dude
…that’s literally what I have been saying. Matter of fact, your whole reply was just a different way of saying the same thing. You just repeated my points and tried to be cool by adding the “my dude” at the end.
I’m done with this pointless conversation. Goodbye
Indeed they can and do support things…things that will allow them to make more money. They are called investments.
The “fight” with DeSantis was all theatre and their “win” simply allows them to continue to rule on their land as if nothing changed.
And I think you are mixing correlation with causation: just because they happen to support and give money to Democrats, it doesn’t mean they stand by them. In the same link you shared, it shows they gave money to the Republicans and Nikki Haley…which is not something someone would do if they truly supported the things you said they do.
And that’s the whole point. They are not someone. They are a company, controlled by individuals who are simply looking to maximize profits. You think they are left- or center-aligned but that is simply because that reflects the majority of their customer base. If tomorrow the right suddenly comprised the majority of their customers, they would change side immediately.
I cannot believe people in 2024 still think giant multinational companies can “be on their side”
They are a company, they don’t support anything. They only look out for the most profitable paths to make money. Just last week Disney started giving donations to the Republican party again
This mentality smells of “just say no” for drugs or “just don’t have sex” for abortions. This is not the ideal world and we have to find actual plans/solutions to deal with the situation. We can’t just cover our ears and hope people will stop
While I do absolutely agree that single issue politics is a real thing like you showed, literally the only reply to your comment was “if you are a single issue voter, you’re an idiot”.
So I also think OP has a point here and we’re talking more about the people who use the term as an ad hominem attack, which I certainly have seen plenty of. And now Lemmy has provided us with yet another example of people taking something legitimate and turning it into a weakness/attackable offence. Like some trolls and racist people on the right now talk about DEI in negative terms
I personally use OSS Document Scanner.
It has different dictionaries, can scan docs/papers and archive them. Can also translate and extract text (to an extent). It works great for my needs, hopefully it is what you were looking for too
They really didn’t even try that to be honest. Bethesda has remained far behind and they don’t seem interested in changing direction sadly
I just found this yesterday so I cannot properly give a review on it, but I found Logseq which seems to be a privacy-focused knowledge management and collaboration platform. It seems very promising and reminds me somewhat of Obsidian
Clearly an excellent boy, 12/10 for sure. Thanks for sharing and a virtual hug to you, I’m sorry for your loss
Lmao serious ‘fuck you’ energy.
Out of curiosity I went to the project’s page and saw more info on why they don’t take donations:
Free. Open-source. For users by users. No donations sought. If you ever want to contribute something, think about the people working hard to maintain the filter lists you are using, which are available to use by all for free.
I’d like to add to the sentiment of this post by saying that if you ever used any of those amazing websites, I’m sure the developers will highly appreciate it if those with the means could consider contributing to their projects.
We all know how greedy and shameless YouTube can be, and yet those developers give us incredible products for free. And if you ever saw the entitled requests of some users on their projects’ pages whenever YouTube implements some changes, and they have to rush to fix their code, I’m sure you would appreciate them even more. I’ve personally seen quite a few projects being abandoned because of the sometimes thankless job of being a developer, and I would hate it for any of these to suffer a similar fate.
So if you can and are willing, feel free to join me in contributing to:
Thank you for the correction! I actually never looked much into it, so it was surprising to see how many misconceptions there are about China’s social credit system. Having said that, after looking more into it, saying it was never put into place wouldn’t be entirely correct either, apparently. Some people have been comparing it to the credit score system in the US and it seems quite apt from what I read. It is there, it simply isn’t a centralized system or an all-encompassing entity.
For China, I would also add the social credit score which relies a lot on facial recognition…a real nightmare
I like you, your answer and your post. Have a cupcake. I also look forward to your updates. Thanks for sharing!
Some people do. There are options (like Proton) that offer good services that respect their users and their privacy and I personally like to support that
That just makes no sense. Next you’ll tell me that onions have no business in making my Tor experience more anonymous either?
