I haven’t played in about a month, but the Corvette update really got my interest renewed. Soon as that dropped, my first thought was how Hello Games basically out-Starfielded Starfield. Having completely walkable interiors on near-infinitely editable ships made things a lot more fun, although also a smidge OP. Methinks I should jump back in! Really need to try VR mode again too.

It’s unfortunate they never finished it. 2 eps then poof. Game is right up their alley with the humor.

I’ve heard of that bug but never encountered it. I have had zed spawn in a few times in interiors before, but never a horde level, more of a “Surprise! I bit you in the dark and now you’re already dead.” On B42 the mod author stated it wouldn’t be out until 42 was marked stable, so a few other modders (BuchoJefe & Mickey Knox primarily) jumped the gun and added their own versions of RV Interior. I use the former’s mod, and it’s pretty solid, as it randomizes interiors. Doesn’t always make sense (like an ambulance interior in a van or box truck), but weird conversions are a thing, so I think it fits in. Adding in Vanvival makes it even more OP, unless you make it part of the lore.
Glad to see you’re playing it again on 503!

Yeah, sorry if I push Week One so much. I feel it’s the only way I can play Zomboid anymore as it adds so much “realism” to the start of the game. I really hope The Indie Stone hire the guy sooner than later as despite the jank in the mod (he is technically replacing zed with NPCs on a limited codebase afaik), it just works so well on the build-up from days 1-7. Not having an MP option for B42 yet also sucks. I’m primarily an SP type of person, so the MP aspect isn’t high on my list.
The only other mod I could recommend, albeit a bit OP, is the B41 version of RV Interior. It changes the gameplay loop as once you find a working vehicle, it becomes your home. Playing inventory Tetris with a base that can be as small as 3x3 tiles, up to a massive truck trailer can be fun and rewarding lol.

Thanks! Yeah, quite the rookie myself, but I wanted to go with Proxmox because it the awesome scripts database the community has created (RIP tteck), as there’s one for each system I want to utilize. I suspect the unit I bought has some issues tho. I’m gonna keep tinkering for a few days before I consider returning it, if possible.

And of course I see this after I bought (and received) a miniPC. Picked up a"beefier" n305 unit with 16GB and a 256GB NVMe, as I wanted some headroom in case I have loftier goals. So far have have horrible luck with it in the first 3-4 hours of attempting install of some Linux flavor. Started with Proxmox, as I want to run LXCs and containers of HA, PiHole, and Jellyfin, and there are some boots where I can’t even get past the installer. Booted up a LiveISO of Mint, and even that froze after a few minutes. Reading around about possible NIC driver issues, C-states, temperature throttling, etc… and what a headache so far. I can’t be sure it’s the device, me, or the images. /vent

The Only Cure! What an immersive way to handle the dreaded “bitten” notice in the health panel. Having to retrain yourself in using tools with your prosthetic is such a great way to extend your playthrough when the inevitable happens.
Damn though, the mod scene for this game is just ever expanding. Rocking B42 myself so no multiplayer yet, but some fantastic modders have implemented some of the best mods over from B41.
I still can’t recommend Week One enough. Slayer has done a great job, and added some great scenarios to make the game a bit dicier at the start, and there’s some very active development on his Discord about the upcoming addition called The Ark.
Yup, the 32GB DDR5 G.Skill i bought at the end of 2023 was $109USD, its equivalent now is $370. Holy shitsnacks.

Thanks! I just ordered the BeeLink EQ14 and it’ll be here sometime next week. Hopefully your guides prove useful to the noob I am :)

EDIT: I’ve chosen the Beelink EQ14. It had the best “last-gen” specs, lowest price, and better hardware (BT 5.2 vs Pulcro’s 4.2, as well as Wifi6 vs Wifi5). I also ruled out the Morefine because all of its reviews were paid, not very reassuring imho.
Alright, not sure how many will circle back, but I’ve narrowed down my choices, as they hit my current thresholds - N150 or equivalent/greater, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe, and Dual LAN connection.
1st place - Morefine M9S - This caught my eye, as although because to me it’s a no-name brand, it has a beefiest specs still well within my price range ($270-ish)
2nd place - Pulcro.io TurnKey Two - These guys I just found, and they seem the most… professional? Same specs as the two below.
3rd place - BeeLink EQ14 - Weird that link has it as an N100, clearly shows N150 on the page…
Thoughts?

I know some of those words, but with that said, thank you for those ideas! That’s a lot more complicated than I was planning, but you gave me fodder for buying a beefier NUC! I think I’m close to settling with an n97 unit that has dual LAN for Pihole and such.
Would you know of any guides or such to set something as complex as what you’ve going, or was it more just time and tinkering? I’m still wrestling with which VM setup to use, but at least Mint was on my shortlist for OS choice.

Hah, well if you posted at the time you did and you’re in my timezone (EST), I can see glancing over it being an ish :P

I suppose I could have, but I’m still somewhat babystepping in Heliboard. I think if I give it a bit more time, it’ll click better. I guess I was just so used to the seemingly solid prediction options for Google Keyboard way back. But having less of my info passing over to them, the better.

I was really loving Futo keyboard, but when companies are tied to any atrocities, or in this case, plain general evil, it’s really tough to stick with. I jumped very briefly over to Sayboard before your post (saw it on F-Droid), but I’m hoping Whisper+ works better, as I think I’ll simultaneously be using it for my upcoming HA voice assistant project.

Hah! That’s why I said I was using Heliboard :P As noted, not the greatest text prediction. e.g. I’ll type “in” specifically starting over the I, and it still types “on”, and it also doesn’t like shorthand wording, like “gonna” which every time gets replaced with “Gibbs”
Still better than the Google keyboard with its billion all-seeing eyes on you.

Thanks for posting this. Just uninstalled Futo keyboard and its neighboring speech to text app. Gotta hunt around for a replacement on both, tho I’ve been using Heliboard, which is okay. Still really bad at swipe predictions.

That’s when you use an Alternate Start mod. I highly recommend Realm of Lorkhan or Alternate Perspective. There’s even a mod for those two to combine. With the Wabbajack stuff above, I would even recommend starting with something like the FUS / FUS Heavy modlists, or you can go all out with the Mad God’s Overhaul 3.7.
I can’t vouch how any of this runs on Linux tho. Maybe I’ll flip eventually.
I go back to the workplace after being off since 12/20. I am low-key fretting as I have 3-4 new staff starting tomorrow to prep tech for, and said tech came in barely two days prior to vacay; aka no time to prep them beyond getting them into our management system. And the above isn’t even factoring in my day-to-day tickets.
Don’t get me wrong, I like my job, but I like being off and lazy way more.
