are they tho? maybe for a quick buck. there are lots of factors. for example, unemployed ppl can consume less and pay less taxes, which is bad for the economy as a whole and can devalue the invesrments in all companies of a region.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•People saying just build your own steam machine don't get its appealEnglish
01·18 days agothe guys from the forums don’t know those things from the forums themselves. those things have specs. most in numbers. you can read system requirements of games you like to get an idea and then look up PC parts or complete PCs that exceed them. there are standards that say what parts generally fit together. when you know one part you want, that narrows down what other parts can be connected to it. for example, if you think the GPU is most important, it will determine the mainboard must have a certain connector for the card and also the power supply needs to fit, as well as the case dimensions to fit it inside. this is how you build/upgrade a PC. Some stores let you select only components that fit together for a configuration, like this German store for example will only let you choose a mainboard with an AM5 socket, if you selected a CPU that requires one and so on: https://www.alternate.de/PC/PC-Konfigurator

11·18 days agoI don’t think you really need those forums. However, why not just slap Ubuntu on a second hand PC, put a decent GPU in and install Steam from the app store? Isn’t SteamOS Linux-based anyways?
The alternate button is to divest from AI, so they can profit from sustainable enterprises.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL that Texas Public School Students Will Be Required to Read the BibleEnglish
7·1 month agoI wouldn’t mind, if they would also be required to read important texts from other religions (eg. Qur’an, Bhagavad Gita, etc.).
Some are. Some don’t care, others think it’s funny.
also, depending on personal preference, “too far” is usually any change. it’s hard to top thousands of years of human evolution. even a cute face with a medium size scar often looks good to most ppl; better even, than the outcome of reconstructive surgery.
if you have seen the person before, you will always notice and it will be uncanny. you can even notice just botox as soon as a person speaks and it’s weird.
but it’s also a matter of taste, like a piercing, for example. some ppl will be like “nooo, what did you do to your perfect face” and others will be like “i’m into that”. the question is what ones priorities are. do they want to look well for others and if so, whom? or do they do it for themselves and it doesn’t matter if others are weirded out.
there are probably different reasons for many cases.
after i heard about an abusive guy making his partner tattoo his name all over her (news article in German https://www.20min.ch/story/niederlande-ex-zwang-joke-zu-250-hans-tattoos-am-ganzen-koerper-103548055 ), i think maybe some ppl make their partners do this to make sure they will not find another partner. i also remember cases where ppl fed their partners extra big portions in hopes of making them obese, so they can’t find another partner. but it’s probably not always the case.
maybe sometimes they are just bored and don’t care about their health and looks.
the thing is, those ppl have seen others with mar-a-lago face. it’s uncanny. still they do it. they are like “i wanna look bad and unnatural”. we have to accept that. their body; their choice.

7·3 months agoMy guess is they want to delay updates, so they have more time to exploit vulnerabilities of systems that are overdue with updates and can’t because of the attack.

yeah, but the OP thinks they must visit a forum to built a specific setup. but that forum is just a pool of second hand info. it can help, but OP doesn’t have to, if they dread it.
