Nvidia? it freezes my system sometimes as well. I go CTRL + ALT + F6, wait for the login to show up on text mode and then CTRL + ALT + F2 to go back, it usually fixes the problem

From my experience, blur/transparency only works consistently on default themes (Breeze). It might work on some themes, however, any update could potentially break the blue/transparency effects.

I also go to Settings > site permissions (or the equivalent) and block requests from sites

I think you are actually clicking the magnifying glass “-” which unzooms it. Try clicking hamburger icon again to retain zoom level
