Driver support, like in the original post. I’m not trying to imply that it’s an impossible situation by any means, but there are better options, like designing / supporting hardware that already has open driver support and with OSes that are designed for them and to be open instead of what we have with Android and hardware designed for it.

I think this should be obvious based on the post that this is a reply to, but the short answer is that it’s based on Android, which Google very much still controls even though it’s “open source.”

Heh. I know this was meant as a joke, but I don’t use use GOG (mostly because it has very few games I care to play), but I also don’t play those games.

This is what I usually recommend to my friends who are interested if they have the hardware to spare. Sometimes I even gift them a machine if I have one to spare (mostly back when hardware was cheaper). This way you can also try out multiple distros without caring to find out which one you like best as well.

I live in the grey and don’t take everything to heart like that. You can believe someone is the best candidate and vote for them but still wish they could be better.

I love reusing old tech like this. People toss / sell at a loss a lot of stuff that has quite a bit of use left in it.

You can buy x86 mini PCs for less now with only a minor hit to power consumption (they use slightly more power). I used to love Pis for home labbing, but I have switched to mini PCs for it.
