Michael Gloss, 21, was the son of CIA Deputy Director for Digital Innovation Julianne Gallina Gloss, and Iraq war veteran Larry Gloss.
Before arriving in Russia on August 13, 2023, Gloss was travelling around Europe. On his Vkontakte page bio, he wrote: “I ran away from home (and) traveled the world. I hate fascism.”
On April 4, 2024, he was killed, likely during a Russian offensive near Bakhmut, however, his burial in the U.S. did not take place until December 2024, Important Stories reports.

I keep seeing this image repeated on Lemmy but I don’t buy it. It’s just an attempt for leftists to distance themselves from tankies. If you’re left but not a tankie, you are just center-left. Only tankies are far-left
Today’s tankies (appropriately to the name) are pro authoritarianism and it just “happens” that’s what far right Russia is. Even China isn’t truly a communism, but they are both authoritarian.
You can be both pro-authoritarian and far left. In fact, that’s kind of the definition of far left.
What are anarchists? They are no tankies but also not center-left.
They aren’t on the political spectrum at all because they don’t believe in any kind of governance.
Tankies have almost nothing in common with the far left outisde teenagers who haven’t worked out the fundemental flaws with communism yet. Beyond those teenagers most left wing folk consider tankies to be pretty right wing.
This doesn’t make sense because tankies are the far left. What you’re thinking of as far left is actually center left.
