Visa & Master Card blocked Payments for steam games.

Alt text: Fancy guy with Visa/Mastercard logo on his head in suit says: I do not think people should be allowed to buy these type of games. itch.io and steam reply: nobody is talking to you. Just process the payment, payment processor.

Wait so visa and mastercard doesnt want you to buy games but would let you spend $1000s on CandyCrush which is basically a scam artist’s dream? We live in a glue drinkers reality where lead poisoning is the average intelligence.

There’s a weird obsession in a lot of americanized Christianity with getting young adults married and then having kids. Because I guess they want to see more little Jesus babies and they think that’s all a young adult woman needs to be doing.

I was pressured hardcore into getting married young and then having kids. Fortunately no kids happened and I got out of it all. But I saw so many older church folk at multiple churches push this on lots of young adults.

There’s this weird “no sex no sex no sex no sex” obsession with sex they impress upon you as a teen, which has kind of a Streisand effect by the way. Then at age 18 it becomes endless “oh you two are so cute, when are you proposing, when is the wedding, when are the kids coming…” kind of shit.

Especially for girls. I knew one woman once who said it was (figuratively) like her parents were weirdly holding her legs closed for so long and obsessed with her “purity,” and then one day it was almost like they were wanting to force her legs open for any Christian man they liked.

We’re living in Libertarian fan-fiction universe. We’ve privatized all the critical cogs of society in the name of “Free Markets = Human Liberty!” and now we’re discovering that a few orthodox reactionary CEOs are functioning as the tyrannical Communist dictators we were told privatization was supposed to protect us from.

Incidentally, all this is happening as the US Government is gobbled up by the Silicon Valley cryptocurrency-obsessed tech sector. So I would not be surprised if this was - simultaneously - used as an excuse to shoehorn porn providers into accepting crypto exclusively while egging on crypto-banks to implement comparable restrictions on transactions and trades.

For the record, it sounds like Payment Processors and Credit Card companies are two different middlemen, and the Payment Processors are claiming the Credit Cards are the ones with restrictive policies.

I want more people to know about GNUTaler. Let’s try to cut out all these middlemen, they aren’t necessary!

credit card companies isn’t really a good term: it could cover many things

what you’re looking for is “card networks” - that’s visa and mastercard… and you’re right; payment processors are a different part of the system

Your daily reminder that Mastercard was already instituting ridiculous requirements for adult content sites, like pre-approval of content, even before the current NSFW game removals in response to Collective Shout. No matter what they want to try and claim, they’re complicit in this.

Indeed! They’re in the spotlight now but they’ve been fucking with the adult industry for decades. It’s because of them that there are rules as to what can and can not be filmed. There are also banned words that can’t be used in the film or film’s description. This list of rules and words grows more and more over the years. Fuck visa/mastercard!

I could accept the porn restrictions, because there is a genuine risk of real harm if adequate safeguards are not put on porn sites. Plus porn isn’t really art (don’t drag me into that debate, if you disagree just say you disagree).

With games, there is next to no risk of real harm and games are art. It is orders of magnitude worse.

A payment processor should have no say in whether I can spend my money on something. They should be following the law and that’s it. If there is no law saying what I want to purchase is illegal, then they should STAY THE FUCK OUT OF IT. PERIOD.

They shouldn’t, but I could accept it because their actions when it came to porn sites probably did protect people (or could’ve, at least). Targetting Steam is not something I can accept.

The issue is that the card processors got Steam and Itch to delist some games completely. You csnt even buy with with a Steam card.
