Fairphone is trying to do good things, but this article misses the point of at least the title.
Open source drivers for the hardware are the critical key to reducing e-waste. Fair phone just has a slightly larger window than other companies, but they’re still creating e-waste. With open drivers, those devices could last forever, just like 486 linux machines are still on the internet.
Yup, and that’s why I’m excited about Linux phones, and disappointed at the same time. They have the hardware features I want, but the software just doesn’t work properly yet.
