I don’t think it’s staged , but if it were, I think it would be very interesting why they didn’t choose one of their usual targets for fearbaiting (trans, immigrant, leftist) to be the assassin.
I’ve thought about it too and have concluded that the shooter they the got to take the fall was more than willingly to eat a lead sandwich for trumpy. He had a reputation for being the weird conservative kid at school. He had experience shooting long range rifles but it was said he wasn’t that good either. Then add to the that not much was ever learned about him and that’s also suspicious. It’s like the had the perfect guy to use.
The shooter was apolitical from my understanding. He searched for many politicians and his choice of Trump was not due to some ideology but convenience. Trump was holding a rally closest to him.
