Yeah it’s declaring a surprise war. You also don’t give a reason for denouncing (which you have to do 10 turns before you’re allowed to declare a formal war, assuming no cassus belli)
Ah I see the difference is every war in stellaris is a “surprise war” you just have to declare why so you can establish exit end goals. For example stealing relic or purging the xenon from the galaxy (on side still alive)
In civ a casus belli is only important diplomatically
