Iran’s foreign minister said earlier that a deal to end fighting with the US is close. The agreement also envisages an end to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, Seyed Abbas Araghchi also said.
Araghchi said the deal includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and told state TV it includes the lifting of a US blockade of Iran. However, he said talks on Iran’s nuclear programme would begin later.
US officials have confirmed some of the details of the agreement, saying economic benefits for Iran would depend on Tehran meeting its obligations.
Previous reports from the US have suggested Lebanon may not be part of this deal - with Iran reportedly insisting on it.
So, the US is going to be paying the Iranian government to get back to the status quo we had at the beginning of this year? Can’t wait to see the administration try to tell us all how they totally didn’t just lose a war.
They were always going to lose. It’d be nice if JD Vance had his presidential ambitions killed by being part of this administration, but he’s been portrayed as uninvolved and unhappy with the war.
Hopefully the coming economic impacts will override any good will he could hope to cultivate. Normally the GOP would be walled from Executive office for at least 8 years, provided the Dems can put forward a non-geriatric candidate, maybe 12-16 if they could keep voters happy.
Super unlikely to see anything other than civil unrest and strife for the next 5-10 years. The Far Right has been pushing for a new civil war, and economic conditions will be bad enough that they might get their wish. Worst case scenario, America won’t exist in 10-15 years.

Not many public statements to that effect, and if his story is “I had a vibes-based opposition to all the unpopular things the president did” he should see how well that worked for Kamala

I feel like as long as we have a stupidly huge nuclear arsenal, “The United States of America” will continue to exist in some form. I think there is going to be more strife in the near term, but longer term I think we will eventually land in a new New Deal type of place because you can only piss off like >70% of people for so long before everything breaks down on you. Peasant anger is contagious and historically more destructive than the nobles ever think it is.
Let Iran have nukes. You’re going to see everyone calm the fuck down and negotiate for peace.
I think the one thing to come out of the Trump regime will be the certain knowledge of how deeply Israel has embedded itself in our politics.
