This is such a short sighted view. Humans are designed to eat more than they need for very good evolutionary reasons, we’re just at the point now where you can do so for pennies. Obesity is on the rise everywhere as a result of this.

There are factors outside “just eat better bro” at play here. Carbs are incredibly cheap these days and eating healthily is comparatively expensive. There’s a reason (several really) that obesity is higher among lower income folks. You couple that with “food desserts”, ready meals and lack of free time and it’s a terrible recipe.

I eat well myself and I consider myself lucky to be able to do so. Just a little of putting yourself in the shoes of someone else and not assuming laziness would do you the world of good.

yes, overeating in abundance periods, to survive lean times is a defense mechanism. Fat is an energy reserve system, completely natural, but it’s not in modern times, where sugars are so prevalent. What you posit is partly true, but things as simple as eating healthier non fresh foods can be achieved. Eat a can of green beans instead of twinkies. Not ideal, but with proper food education, the food desert problem can be mitigated. Instead of eating Spam, eat frozen chicken, for example. Cheap and heaps healthier.
