so i saw this band a couple weeks ago. i wish i had a better recording, because their cover of john lee hooker’s boom boom was mind blowing. it was one of those shows where the frisson was electric in the air. if that wasn’t the best show of their life i want to be there to hear it, and i’ll go to every one of their shows i can so i get the opportunity to, they are fun to sing along with.

were they breaking new ground? nah, they’re a cover band. but they’re fun. like i use at least a cane when i go out. i wanted to dance all three sets they were up for. it was at a seafood restaurant in Morro Bay, CA (i don’t know the name of the restaurant. Tagliazzi’s? I just kind of was walking down the wharf with my wife and followed my nose until i saw a band and a smoker. like, BBQ smoker) and we snagged a table before they ran out. If you were there, uh, two thursdays ago i was the dude with the cat hat. but the point is they were fun. and like, that fun led to connection via music, and it was a great experience. the kind of experience that as musicians, only happens like, five or six times or once or twice a lifetime, depending on how good and how lucky you are. i’m forty years into being a music dude and at… two or three? depending on whether we count this one. and in the crowd you get to experience it even less, and i got to experience it in the crowd with these dudes.
