The issue is that a bunch of solar without storage sucks for the grid and a lot of countries can’t afford all the storage so they can’t subsidize solar like they used to.
E.g in my country solar is unusable in the winter whereas in the summer we already have so much excess production sometimes that electricity prices go negative for daytime hours and you have to disconnect your panels from the grid unless you want to pay the grid company. We have 18 hour days in the summer and 18 hour nights in the winter.
