Essentially yes, the goal is division and particularly division with zero possibility of resolution so that the division is eternal. The worst outcome is people who have the most in common put down their differences and work together. Instead one needs to get people fighting one another over increasingly minute details. It’s best when it’s worked into an almost religious state of infallibility on both sides. We are the good guys and they are Satan incarnate and the only way forward or cure is their complete and utter removal. I mean that’s what I would do if I was manipulating the masses and never wanted them to wake up from the spell we’ve cast on them.

I believe the goal is to work two groups into an incurable division aka you want both sides to know they are the good guys and know the other side are essentially the spawn of Satan. There’s a lot of common ground to be found between people if they were to relax and not go full bore tribalism with politics.
