    I take it as a sign that things won’t last much longer.

    When the thing that’s supposed to help keep the government in check is instead running cover for them, the top will start wobbling

      That’s very optimistic. History shows that once a regime is established, power is consolidated, the media is in line and protests are repressed, ousting the regime and rebuilding democracy can take a long time.

      Russia had this level of obvious corruption and pillaging of state resources in the 90s, and where are they now?

      Still managing to hold onto the illusion that the magic legal fairy will come save everyone? Laws don’t exist in nature, someone has to enforce them. Still people are persisting with the fairy tale that the law will automatically stop this

      The media hasn’t been interested in holding government accountable in my lifetime. It was less overtly partisan pre 9/11, but that’s about it.
