We had a cat hated the dog until her dying day. Spat vinegar at her every time the dog dared to look in her direction. After she passed, we got another couple of cats, one of whom really wanted to make sure the dog knows who’s boss.
Now the poor old dog won’t look any cat in the eye. We have a cat that seems to want to rub up on the dog and the dog looks so uncomfortable and always walks away, it’s so sad! Poor traumatized pup.
“I will tolerate all. Don’t mind the dog, why don’t you. I’m just here to please everybody. That’s my job, I suppose. Harumph. I said HARUMPH. No? Nobody? Like I said, this is my lot, thanks for proving it with your inattention. I will fart now.”
My critters are the opposite. Cat loves dog, dog is very unsure about this relationship.

Aww, cats can be such jerks!
They set boundaries, they do do that. And like, what’re you gonna do? You kind of have to respect that.
