The very bad news is, Nvidia says turning DLSS 5 on will currently reduce performance by 50-60%. And that’s across the board—no matter the game.

Funny how DLSS went from a performance enhancing to a performance reducing technology. Kind of the state of the whole gaming industry.
Could be argued it was always just a “graphic improving” technology, and has simply moved past the point of equivalent exchange.
So my argument from the start has always been that DLSS and FSR would eventually be abused by both the creators and the developers, using upscaling not as a tool to lengthen the useful life of older video cards but a vendor locked crutch worse than the whole era of “Nvidia, the way it’s meant to be played” bullshit.
And I think for the most part, it’s come true. Every new revision is locked to the latest cards, negating the whole original purpose. Developers are optimizing less and even started recommending it as preferred specs. The vendor lock is certainly real and only getting worse, especially with this crap
Also given that Nvidia themselves are stating to expect a massive drop in frame rate, one has to wonder if this is part of their plan for “You’ll own nothing and like it” strategy. I mean if it really takes a second SLAI 5090 with a massive power draw, then for most gamers, even those who have some disposable income, that isn’t going to be achievable especially now when a 5090 costs 5090. In swoops Nvidia with their Geforce Now you pay forever and own nothing since the scarcity brought on by Nvidia is now your only real option to play a game that doesn’t look and act like crap.
I never thought it would get this bad, this quickly honestly.
