Didnt they remove agents who review and audit high income payers and increase the agents who review regular people 's taxes ?

I could have sworn I saw a news article on this like maybe 6 months ago. Ish.

Anyone know what I’m talking about. ?

I can’t seem to find it on Internet search but I can’t recall many details

I don’t remember exactly either but I think they cut people across the board. Now IRS only has time to go after easy cases against people who dont have the resources to put up a fight.

Looks like they are about 40 trillion behind. Do the lower 75% income earners in America even make enough in their lifetime to put a dent in it? No? Then fuck the IRS

My god how are you this stupid?

The IRS has been intentionally defunded by the Epstein class for the purpose of making it impossible to audit the rich, which is something IRS employees have been sounding the alarm on since at least Reagan.

And if we ever want to tax the rich, how do you think we go about doing that? The IRS being funded, dipshit.

Everyone is required to file, even those who don’t, in the end, pay anything, and it would be better to have a fully-staffed agency ready to answer questions, offer guidance, and otherwise make the filing easy.

No they aren’t. The IRS threshold is around ~$15k for an individual before you have to file.

Went ahead and wasted the time to show you

I don’t understand this weird defense of the IRS in this thread. The IRS has always been problematic, and you highlighted the dumbest part: everyone is required to file.

Why? So H&R Block and TurboTax can make billions off you.

The government knows what you make, your employer reports it, your bank transactions report it, and the only income that truly depends on self reporting is cash “under the table” pay, which doesn’t get reported anyway…

The IRS takes an 0 interest loan from every American, makes them jump through hoops to fill various complicated forms or pay a company to do it, just to get your money that you loaned them back.

It’s a stupid system designed to create complex scenarios for rich people to pay less taxes, why are you all defending it exactly?

You should want something more reasonable like a flat tax, and use that to fund social safety nets so it doesn’t effect low income earners as much. Instead everyone is throwing insults to defend the IRS?

It was already designed to make you pay more taxes than the rich, there’s nothing to defend about it. It would be significantly cheaper for the IRS to simply tell you exactly what you owe out of every paycheck, and get away with the whole “filing” process.

That doesn’t get rid of the filing process, only simplifies it. IRS can’t know all the details of your finances. The 0 interest loan only goes that way if you overpaid. Some people underpay so IRS gave them a loan instead. Etc. Flat taxes are stupid too, rich people should pay more.

I don’t disagree on it being overly complex but you can’t get rid of the whole thing altogether. EVERY country has some sort of equivalent.

EVERY country has some sort of equivalent.

Oufff. Nope. Don’t say things so confidently.

There are tens of countries that don’t have any income tax, tens of other countries have a flat tax, and if the remaining counties that have more complex tax systems the vast majority don’t require annual filing.

Your system is not complicated for your benefits, it’s made to benefit the rich.
