Just logged in to my reddit account, now 11 months banned. Haven’t been logged in on the site in nearly 6 months.
When I first got sniped by a bot and bounced out last October, I went through and manually deleted what WAS available at the time. The prior 12 months of my comments and all my posts. (everything older than 12 months is archived and unavailable - that change went through a few months before the IPO and I’d been a member since 2010 - so there’s a lot of my content I can’t get to anymore… ) Cleaned out what I could, but would get the occasional bot-reply so rather than deleting the account, I decided to let it sit and just flit through on occasion so if the random new reply to an old comment would show up, I could get at it, and delete it.
So back to now… I just logged in and can see the comments I made TWO years ago. I’ve scrolled back to check and it looks like it’s going back even further.
Seems to me that even though the account is banned, the system is acting like facebook and digging up, and putting up what content it can find, into the Overview page for the account, under new. It wasn’t doing this 6 months ago. Something’s changed.
This is great, as I can now get at my vintagemac posts and copy them out.
Consider not deleting your reddit account if youve been banned and have technical shit up. Just clear out what you don’t need, and copy out what you can add on lemmy.
Ooooo, I have my work cut out for me in the next few weeks.
It doesn’t let me edit or delete content on my banned account? I thought banned accoutns are put on lockdown.
I’ve seen the old content appearing after running redact even though I have an account set to hide content. It’s either a bug or intentional who knows.
Huh… I’m using old reddit - always have, so maybe that is the difference?
If you request your data they’ll give you the links to your old comments and there is software that can use the text file they send you to delete the old ones, fyi.
Also, be sure to scramble the text before you delete the comment/account.
Ah, I was not aware of this. Thank you!
I will however, be copying my old vintage apple how-to posts. Should be interesting to dig down into all of that.
I should say the data they send you has all the message text etc, so it’s fun to read through. You can keep it on your computer privately while scrambling what is on Reddit.
