It’s the first public report on the ongoing war started Feb. 28 by the U.S. and Israel.
The Defense Department’s inspector general released its first report on the war with Iran on Monday, saying the conflict has resulted in a shortfall of U.S. munitions and “bottlenecks” in supply chains as the Trump administration works to replenish weaponry.
“To mitigate these constraints,” the report said, the Pentagon is “working to streamline procurement processes and production lead times, and to stockpile critical materials, components, and selected munitions to respond rapidly to a contingency.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has denied reports that the U.S. is running low on munitions.
No shit, Sherlock! Who would have thought that wasting tons of (whatever) would leadto shortages of (whatever)?
The just in time, stock only for the figurative next day, corporate policies are partially to blame for this. There is no magical logistics fairy God mother who can hocus pocus the inertial guidance system for a ground to air interceptor.
The leviathan deep sub contractor that makes just the component housing is probably waiting on some crazy complicated metal alloy. Meanwhile the foundry is probably waiting for some bizarre rare earth metal.
On top of that, all of the manufacturers have such extreme cases of requisition change order whiplash that the CFO is afraid to get out of bed lest they find the newest regimen said “nah” and cut the order in half.
To be fair, this shit has been fucked up for decades. For about a year and changed I handled inventory accounts for a missile shop. It took half a year for a mission critical piece of equipment to be repaired by a contractor. Worst part is when I did a calibration self check, the thing was still fucked.
