If it’s not a bloodbath, we’re fucked. The past two years haven’t seen much political violence, at least not at the scale you’d expect in reaction to this monumental fuckup of a president and the reason for that is that people want to sort this out democratically. If that doesn’t happen, things will get violent and Trump will use that to consolidate even more power and then there will be an even stronger reaction.
The mistake is the insanity that everyone keeps placing all those faith in every rule, agency, and institution that has failed us for over a decade.
If we had the ability to prevent a monster like this from soezing power, we would have

It’s pretty much guaranteed to not be a “bloodbath.” Current polling gives a healthy lead (8-9 points) to Democrats, and they are likely to capture the House. However, it’s a swing that’s easily reversed, and insufficient to enact the necessary reforms on the short term.
Even with a supermajority, would Congress do what needs to be done? Also, when people are inevitably upset that nothing got done, they’d just go right back to team nazi.
Unlikely, I feel the minimum requirement is a Fidesz-level trouncing combined with a more credible opposition. But the state of democracy and human rights in the US is already well below Orbán-era standards, and even that may not suffice.
Im skeptical enough even agree we need “reforms.” Like there are a ton of people that are ONLY angry about gas prices. They didn’t care about his unilateral decisions, ice, fascism, etc etc.

Gotta agree. We already saw how more than half the electorate could be outrageously stupid and/or hateful enough to vote for this guy two years ago. And just because something looks obvious to you doesn’t mean it gets past the willful ignorance of millions of others.
