Hey folks, I have several accounts across the fediverse (Lemmy, pixelfed, mastodon, bookwyrm), and I think it would be neat to have a single identity across all these platforms.
I’m an amateur self hoster, and was looking into Rebased, a fork of Pleroma. If I were to create a single user instance on rebased, what would I be missing over these accounts on all these services? Could I still use the different apps? (Blorp, Pachli, Rocinante). Would I be missing features?
Sort of. Every account on Lemmy federates with other Lemmy accounts using the activity pub protocol, but that protocol is vast and the way to implement it is left up to individual app developers. Some apps do tweet like posts very well but not reddit like posts at all. Some do both. Some do other weird stuff like bookwyrm where they use “ordered collections” to store book lists. So you can see Lemmy accounts on mastodon but it doesn’t work perfectly all the time.
