Israeli PM’s route via four ICC member states prompts fresh scrutiny over their alleged breach of international law

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew over Greece, Italy, France and Canada on Thursday on his way to address the UN, despite an International Criminal Court warrant for his arrest.

The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November 2024, on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed in Gaza since October 2023.

Netanyahu arrived in the US for a short visit to address the UN General Assembly in New York, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani has said he does not have the authority to arrest the Israeli leader.

    I think any country that allows things like this should get ignored by the ICC for any criminals that they want to have arrested. France looking for a criminal that stole stuff from the Louvre or something? Nah, ask someone else.

      France (and the rest of capitalist core) is already ignored by ICC. Reading many comments in this thread i see that people seems to have many misconceptions concerning purpose and scale of ICC. In fact, it is not chasing burglars, but it is the colonial court for Africa and the scale of its activities are kinda pathetic since the number of indicted are not many and many of them were not even arrested and judged.

      ICC only had its five minutes when it accused Putin (enthusiastically supported by all the countries that now ignore its accusation against Netanyahu) and now Netanyahu.

        1. Colonize Africa, appropriating its land and people.
        2. Stop colonization, but never pay African countries back for it in any noticeable capacity.
        3. Force African countries to join the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, both of which strongly prioritize rich countries’ interests.
        4. Now they’re not colonies, but they still have to work like slaves to pay off unfair debts.
        5. Force them to join the ICC, which, among other activities, punishes mostly African government officials for forced labour in their countries, without which they would not be able to pay off debts to rich countries.

        This is the West, the one that is supposedly peaceful, democratic, and wants to build a rule-based world order. Yep, checks out.
