Yea i started planning one out this spring and opted for DIY. its still expensive as fuck and i hate myself for taking on the project. But i also cant afford to heat my house with kerosene anymore so something had to break. it was my back and my bank they broke. Not to mention Tariff King bumped the prices up on everything 50% or more. It’s worth the peace of mind, but its honestly a 10k adventure.
I don’t have $50,000 to drop on solar, byd and bice either.
I just got a 2023 id.4 for 20k, and I charge off the grid.
Yeah, the 200% charge and extra 10-20k to get it insurable is a no from me.

It’s pretty common in the North. Older houses built in the 40s thru 60s that have never been fully renovated. Furnaces are surprisingly resilient
