I just can’t accept one of my joys of childhood being used to track me and sell my information. Will not download.
My phone screen is far far too small to read the EULA. It just scrolls on and on and on and on.
So… I don’t know if this download has trackers, but for that reason I did not accept.

Even if they put one out and I bought it, id probably still want to play on a good emulator.

This game was balls hard to begin with. Playing it with touch screen is going to be an absolutely terrible time.
You can connect a Bluetooth capable controller to android and iPhone. I dunno how many people will, but you definitely can.

Does anyone emulate oldschool action games without a physical controller? Castlevania was and is hard enough game with a controller on the original console without input delay. The PlayStore page says no data is collected. That’s nice to hear, but are there any ads included? And can this change over updates?
Note: I’m not shitting on the game or getting it for free, my question is more of a general nature. It’s nice the manual is integrated too. And anyone can just start playing without worrying about emulators and Roms. I don’t even play on Android, so these are just questions and observations out of curiosity.
I mean, there are no ads, but I only made it deep into the first level. This can absolutely change with updates for the better or worse - whether Konami will do it or not is doubtful IMO. This seems to me like a quiet, lazy promotion.
The activities in case you use something like App Manager are few, and there are no trackers or permissions it requests or anything, fairly benign. The activity labeled Check Data is to reload a previous state if you previously quit the game prematurely? And the activities labeled Kiyaku are for the terms and conditions (that’s the Japanese word for them). It doesn’t have DRM or license verification.
The manual just explains the controls and is an overlay on top of the gameplay screen, it’s not the original NES manual.
I couldn’t figure out how to pull the NES ROM out, I think it’s part of the .so library they’re using.
I wouldn’t play this with just touch controls, but you may try. It has a single save-state system so you can brute force actions even with touch controls if you want.
Thanks for checking. Sounds actually not that bad after all, at least from the side of what Konami gave. With the exception of the manual, if its not really the real manual. Maybe some builtin cheats to enable and disable would have been nice. For me, I am not using he PlayStore at all. So its not something I would try out myself. But its so interesting to me that Konami didn’t forgot its roots, after being possessed for years…
Maybe this free version is so that people install and then get recommendations about other Castlevania and Konami games from the PlayStore. Otherwise, I’m not sure why Konami did that, because for hardcore fans they probably already have a way to play the game.
I’ve been trying to play the (official, free but now delisted) port of the original Sonic with touch controls. It’s a well-made port with some QoL features but it’s really bloody hard to control without the physical feedback of buttons!
