I never had a single issue with Windows 11, it ran as smoothly as Windows 10 and even 7(interesting anecdote, the only 2 BSOD I got were on W7).
That being said… I’ve been using Fedora KDE exclusively for almost a year now, it is pretty good, so I’ve probably missed all the recent issues.
The only place I have Windows these days is at work and I fuckin hate it. I have at LEAST one update a week which takes forever, they still haven’t fixed “update and shut down”, and teams/outlook only seem to get shittier and shittier. No I don’t want to use your fucking slop-pilot for my email and messaging it’s such a simple part of my job.
Fucking outlook won’t even open without a connection. It’s a fucking mail client, not webmail. The assholes at Microsoft are just goddamn braindead.
Rightclick the background graphic in outlook. It’s a fucking webadress, you can copy/paste it. They can’t even have a stupid piece of artwork on your hd. Ok fair enough it’s outlook, it’s supposed to be online. But this is just lazy.

I had zero problems with Win 11. But to be fair I went into group policies to turn off stuff.
This is the curse of being on the feature release of Windows compared to maintenance mode. Windows 10 also had awful bugs when it was the main squeeze. Remember One Drive causing file loss?

I don’t think the level of fuckups of W10 back in the day was this insane. And if it was, we could agree Microsoft has an endemic problem with releasing undercooked software. At any rate, comparison or not, they need to get a proper QA team, yesterday.

If using Windows, ltsc is the only version to use. Stripped of lot of the bullshit by default, no Microsoft store, no onedrive, copilot, etc. Not sure if it is a ltsc feature, but can also uninstall edge.
Whether on 10 or 11, ltsc is the most Windows 7 like experience before Microsoft started pushing Windows Store, preloading programs, and pushing account sign in.
You can uninstall edge on normal windows too if you use an ISO for EU people IIRC

Linux has been fine for me for a couple years. Fuck Microsoft.
Linux isn’t perfect, but it’s kind of hilarious how much more stable it is than Windows, considering it’s mostly made by volunteers and Windows is made by one of the most highly funded corporations on earth.
It’s all about the design philosophy. Linux is made by volunteers, but their goal is functionality for the user. Windows has a lot of funding, but their goal is more profits for the shareholders.
the ecosystem is heavily sponsored & shaped by the big ones.
I’m currently dealing with an annoying Linux bug, but it’s specific to one distro and I’m already planning to switch to something more stable.
Linux certainly has its share of annoyances. But I’d much rather deal with the Linux annoyances than the Windows ones.
At least when I’m trying to fix something in Linux the OS itself isn’t trying to fight me.
If Linux screws up, it’s nearly always my fault, and I can almost always find a way to fix it (and in the process gain a little more knowledge about how the whole thing functions).
It’s how I imagine car mechanics feel about building and driving a car.
At least Linux bugs are usually fixable and errors aren’t as generic as water

Windows 10 is now in that sweet spot where it’s no longer getting borked by updates, but is still widely supported by most Windows software. Windows 7 was like that from 2020 until around late 2023. Windows 10 probably has got about 2, maybe 3 years left and then you’ll start seeing support for Windows 10 getting dropped.
I boot two machines with the same peripheral setup on a switch, one W10 and one W11. All drivers are up to date on both, the W11 machine makes the monitors constantly flicker on and off and is essentially unusable during anything that uses a few % points of CPU. MISERABLE.

You see GATT the point is that I boot this setup with win10 and win11. It worked in win10, the legacy machine. Didn’t work with win11. Lesser experience by every measure. And it wasnt great to start with

No shit. It irks me to no end they ‘updated’ the installers of pre win 11 versions of their software to force an upgrade to 11 before they will even install. Visual studio can suck my balls.
I switched my gaming system from Windows 7 to 10 (Edu) when Steam stopped supporting 7 and 10 stopped getting feature updates. Has been pretty stable and annoyance-free since then. If I ever need 11 I hope it’ll be after that stops getting feature updates too, but Linux is the more likely future.
Switch over to Linux now - the transition is by far not as harsh as it was a decade ago, and with Wine and accompanying technologies you’ll be running whatever software you need in no time.
I was running Win10 as a gamer, because there was no alternative back then. Nowadays i am somewhat surprised if i stumble across some software i can’t just run, and those are in most cases easily replaceable.
I’ve been using Windows 11 ltsc and that is stripped down with no Windows Store, onedrive, etc. And it just gets security updates. But, has the one feature I did care about with auto hdr.
Personal opinion, win 11 is great. Have not had a single issue for 5 years. Much more resistant to malware effecting the bootloader, etc. No issue with games though to be fair I doubled my RAM to 32gb before the apocalypse lol

same for me. wouldn’t call it great, but I’ve used every windows regularly since 3.1 and 11 is no worse than any of the others. some terrible business decisions made and some privacy concerns, but as far as the actual OS’s stability I rarely have any issues. i use my pc for streaming and coding and gaming.
Conspiracy theory but foreign states prefer we use win 10 as its easier to infect with malware than win 11 running on TPM (cue the downvotes)
