EDIT: Replaced cool flag with a phtoto from an old article. It’s getting difficult to find useful images that I am 100% sure aren’t AI gen.

When the US was a new country, one of the first things it did was stop respecting copyrights on British books.

For a full century between 1790 and 1891 the only copyrights that applied in the US were ones by authors who were residents or citizens of the USA.

I think it makes perfect sense to protest the USA by refusing to honour US copyrights.

Yeah, easier said than done. The pirating sites are on a whack a mole model, throw up clones in poor countries, they get shut down start a new one.

Now search engines won’t link to them, so unless we get a search engine that is not giving the government a reach around, we won’t be able to even find those links anymore.

I still don’t understand why countries that are being bullied by the US, and having their trade deals unilaterally ripped up, still insist on respecting US copyrights and listening to takedown demands from US companies.

Just start treating it like the US treats pot in most places, decriminalize it, stop enforcing the law.

Weapons, that is why. We got the good shit. And even what we don’t sell to them, we can sponsor other assholes to supplant their current leaders.

That is not the only factor, but it’s a very big one.

I’d say it’s almost the only factor that matters at this point. The US has lost a significant amount of their soft power, but at the end of the day the amount of money we dump into the military industrial complex buys us hard power.

It’s disgusting and I hate it. 100% agree with the post. Most US people don’t respect our own copyright laws. I know mannnnny people that just stream online from random sites.

I haven’t paid for tv or movies, in, 15 years at least. Even then I pirated though, except prior to maybe 2006 I didn’t.
