For real! It’s partially what keeps me coming back to Windows. I yearn for the day when Paint.net can be ran on Linux.

Last time I tried using Paint.NET (early last year, I think) it had significant feature gaps compared to the likes of Photoshop, Krita, or Gimp. It’s a good start. And I know it’s an open source project that’s dependent on contributions and funds. But if you need to edit images beyond some relatively basic features, it’s not there yet.

Not using this doesn’t help with that though? It is already released, telling them not to make it would help but it’s too late now?

disagree, if they reimplement this as foss software and it crushes adobe it will be nothing but a good thing, sure ai overall is bad but ai was happening anyway and minimizing the harm of it by using it for actually good things for the foss movement is the least problematic possible thing to do with a highly problematic tech.

Minimizing the harm means not using it. AI output doesn’t come out of nothing. It’s generated at significant ecological cost.

They were going to use it anyway. The notion that your boycott will accomplish anything when the tool is this unbelievably useful is insane, fight this at the regulatory level, furthermore the ecological impact is quite minor if you use Chinese ai due to the solar farms.
