Yes I know how mail encryption works. The point is that mails get encrypted as soon as they enter mailbox’ servers, so mailbox can never know any contents, so they have nothing to hand over to authorities if they come asking. They do have to know the private key used for this though, that is a risk to consider. Of course, if you want fully secure mail, you need both parties agreeing on encrypting/decrypting the mail. Or just don’t use email, use a secure protocol instead.

No, that’s not how it works. If you set up mailbox encryption (mailbox guard), you set up (or let mailbox.org generate) a pgp keypair. Any time you want to read an email, you have to unlock the key first. This way you can use regular imap, the body of emails will just arrive encrypted (and optionally the subjects as well I believe), you only need a pgp decryption tool to read the mails (which Thunderbird/K9 supports out of the box (with OpenKeychain on Android)).

Yes so of course my actual opinion is a little more nuanced than this. I absolutely see the uses of AI, I won’t deny that. I just fundamentally disagree with the way it is being used right now (by which I mean the gas-turbine-powered datacenters it requires, the noise pollution they create, the unethical/outright illegal acquiring of training data.

If you’re using a local model, whose training did not deprive actual people of huge amounts of water or electricity, and did not use stolen data, I’m all for it. But most people aren’t, they’re using ChatGPT or Gemini or whatever Microsoft is making.

Those gl flatpaks are actually the display drivers. Flatpak doea not use any system libraries, it has to depend on a flatpak for everything, but most things are already in org.freedesktop.Platform, but not nvidia drivers of course.

I can say from personal experience the the effect of driving more cautiously is real, but that’s because i could tell i couldnt react or think nearly as quickly as normal. If some kid came running from a blind spot, i would have hit them, no doubt. Definitely would not recommend. (I’ve only driven while high twice, both times because the person asking me didn’t know i was high, and i wanted to keep it that way.
