No, I never lived in a rich town. lol I find it odd you assume that. And mind you, this was in 6 different states between the US and Mexico.

I can’t recall ever having shitty teachers in public schools up until uni. In fact, I got amazing teachers who cared and sometimes went above and beyond. None of them came to school drunk, save for one uni teacher who was also named the top surgeon in my city. 🤷♂️

I have never understood this idea that you need to see some sort of opposition to know that you’re of the right opinion, rather than value insightful opinions that may, for example, take on root causes or offer more nuanced takes, or whatever other mechanism that pushes our views in a meaningful direction. This is where Lemmy excels. Pure opposition for the sake of it only results in meaningless arguments and turning the same wheel of discussion that has been turned for ages in online spaces where someone gets attacked, and nobody changes their mind, imo.

Time to double down on the adblocks, then. I get it conceptually, but I still don’t understand this need for infinite growth at everyone’s expense.

There are practically no users from… Latin America
Fuck my drag, right? Lol

Seriously, I’m so tired of people here baselessly slinging those insults every time someone has the wrong opinion. I’m tempted to start naming and shaming.

That a lot of people can’t help themselves but read way more into the comment than it’s actually saying. I can’t count the times I’ve had to be so explicit and airtight for those bottom feeders to get it.

there seem to be fewer unrestrained jerks
I wish. I’d say it’s proportionally about the same.

I’ll say it. It Zucks.

I feel your pain. Welcome to Lemmy.

Money + downtime + not very smart?
Mine is that we should let people humanely end their lives whenever they choose to, no questions asked. I don’t understand this need to keep everyone alive who doesn’t want to be. Life is fucking hard as it is to have depression, and on top of that, be forced to deal with all of this every day in misery.
I already went through depression and it was awful, but now that I don’t have it, I don’t really find life any more appealing than before. I still often wonder, do I really want to live through this shit for the next 40 fucking years?

Excited for the comedy special that’s gonna reference this next year.

I’m not a fan of how the post titles compete with the neon bars for my attention, but otherwise it looks nice.

It’s as good as college
No, it’s not. I’ve heard this line from a few conspiracy and woo groups like flat-Earthers and Pleiadians. I’m not saying you are one of those folks, but those are the people who are most vocal about the idea. They believe that just because the information is presented, they’ll become the experts for passively consuming it. But since they’ve never been to school beyond high school, they’re missing the entire school context, the study culture, the discipline, the challenges to prove your knowledge, the hands-on experience, the contents of the lectures from the point of view of top professionals, and the guidance that a university offers.
There may be a few prodigies out there who really learn the material on their own, and that’s amazing. But for the typical person, the effort and perseverance required is so demanding that they won’t realistically stick with it before it becomes incredibly overwhelming and tedious, especially while on a platform known for its distractions.

We’ll handle it, thanks. We don’t need the US meddling in our territory.

The list needs updating.
Also needs other conspiracies from around the world, not just the ones perpetrated be the US government.

Welp, I guess I’m all out of money for new tech. Time to travel or find a new hobby.
Oh hi, Dessalines
