here’s the neat thing. in the US, rules don’t apply when you’re rich.

that’s magic nonsense that crime dramas on TV invented. try a reverse image search and look for higher resolution versions of the image you want.
or grit your teeth and use tools that “add detail” by guessing, like AI. but keep in mind that those tools essentially lie by painting in detail that was never there to begin with.

they took the meta out of Meta 🤣

that’s not stealing, that’s copying. you’re in the wrong comm to be calling piracy stealing.

saving as much as we can
an economic depression is going to make your spending power tank. don’t save all of your money, invest it in things that will allow you to support your well-being when things get hard. I don’t mean in stocks or whatever, I mean in things like a garden to grow as much food as possible. water filtration like a Katadyn hand pump water filter. solar panels large enough to charge your small electronics like a phone at least, and big enough to power things like your lights if you can afford it. hand tools for repairs around the house. a bidet so you don’t ever need toilet paper again. whatever you need to route your rain gutters into tanks to store water for drinking or watering plants.
you know, practical things that will help you. if you do save money, keep it hidden away in a fireproof safe inside your walls. money saved won’t do much if it’s in a bank that might decide not to let you withdraw it during a recession. I’m not saying you should go crazy and become a prepper, but taking a few steps to decrease your reliance on a functioning society will make things easier when times get hard.

it wold be better you go back to being isolated. enjoy what’s left of the world before trump stumbles his dumbass way into a nuclear war.

I fucking hate gen AI art and it has made my life more difficult in many ways… suddenly it infests shit in a way it shouldn’t
seeing as how using genAI even during development is still rare enough that it makes the news, I can’t imagine it’s been as big of a problem for them as they make it seem. this sounds more like a smaller publisher taking a popular public stance for the PR.

Yeah, let’s go ask the cavepeople of 30,000 years ago how they handled dangerous industrial jobs in a communist country.

I pay a total of $6/month for an indexer an usenet service, and $8 for a VPN. all other media, including games, I get through that.

I imagine what they earn depends on how many ad impressions they get.

makes zero sense
that about sums up religion in general, well done. I think that about wraps the thread up, honestly. good work, everyone!

is it OK to let little kids starve when you can feed them and clean up the environment at the same time? and what’s with this quotation marks around the word earn? that’s some privileged bullshit from somebody who has clearly never been hungry or homeless.

the guides who make their living taking people up the mountain would be out of a job. the industry supports thousands of people, shutting it down would mean those families and their children would starve.

Well, I’ve read about people using Mac Minis as home servers, so I’m assuming that one is more powerful than the HP laptop. You’ll probably want to make it the media server. With a Jellyfin server, Jellyseer for media discovery, and a full Servarr stack for fetching TV shows and movies, you’ll be set with a almost fully automated system for watching whatever you want. All you gotta do is tell it what shows you’re interested in.
The HP laptop doesn’t need to be all powerful in order to function as a NAS, so that’s a good job for something with such weak specs. I would remove the battery though. If you keep it plugged in all the time you won’t need it, and batteries that stay charged all the time will end up being ruined anyway. Better to just recycle that than to risk ending up with a spicy pillow.

you should indeed use one as your home media server. but you may not need to figure out how to control them. if you have a smart TV or a Roku, then you can always just set up a Jellyfin on the server and stream to your TV, which would allow you to use your normal remote.
for the other one, you can turn it into a NAS for backup purposes or something. there’s honestly a ton of different things you can do fairly easily.

maybe if you close the damper. and make sure everyone agrees to it or you could catch a charge if they get pissy about it.

creators get paid for views.
that’s not exactly true. creators get paid for ad impressions, not for views. a client like Freetube or Libretube does not view any ads, so the creators do not get paid.
this is why some frontends and browser extensions allow you to allowlist certain channels, so that they get paid for your watching their content.
actually, a child doesn’t have a legal right to a parent. for example, my birth certificate doesn’t list a father. legally, I never had one. of course, practically speaking, I also didn’t have one.
