  • Deleting the app did wonders for me. Well, Reddit deleted the app FOR me (Apollo user), and I refused to install their adware app onto my phone.

Forced me to only use it on PC, because visiting via phone browser showed like 3 comments on thread, then linked to some other thread, and insisted I install their adware for “a better experience”.

PC I was still browsing and occasionally commenting on old.reddit for a while, with uBlock on high censorship mode. But all my mobile browsing was gone.

  • Welcome to the Fediverse!

Good to see you found your interests here! One of the most common complaints is the lack of whatever niche someone is looking for. So it sounds like you got lucky!

I’m another that fled when they killed 3rd party apps, and.lied about devs to demonize them in the process. Never swappedoff of old reddit on my PC, Had been spending half of my reddit time on mobile, refused to install their shitty adware app on my phone.

Spent less and less time on it on PC, eventually accidentally did something on my browser that disabled the ‘reply’ button even on old reddit, took it as a sign.

Old account, same Karma style. No farming, just decent wordsmithing while writing my comments. Enough to know my general comments would be positive, without sacrificing what I wanted to say. (And to know when to go all-out on something unpopular enough that no careful words would stop the downvotes)

You will find a different culture here. I’ve certainly gotten dome comments upvoted that I was SURE would go negative. If you notice posts/people that bother you are primarily from one instance, you can block that whole instance from your feed. We even have a lil community specificly for complaining about power-tripping mods at !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com if you feel any here could use some name 'n shame!

  • I don’t watch mainstream media, but Status Coup News does follow his case and updates when something happens.

From what I understand, lawyers found a major issue with how he was apprehended. Apparently he wasn’t read his rights before they started taking action, so a fair bit of evidence they have against him may need to be thrown out.

Also they decided to pursue the death penalty way too fast, among other injustices.

  • Tyson.

Iirc, largest meat supplier. Which means they are a huge catalyst to the industry that literally profits on death and misery more than any other.

Their products are corpses, their human workers are in the industry with the highest rate of PTSD from their jobs, and by simply existing they’re helping create superviruses by fostering cramped sheds of half-dead animals that can barely move sleeping on their own shit and being kept alive just long enough to slaughter, using powerful antibiotics that will become useless a lot faster than if we used those antibiotics to protect humans instead of giving the perfect environment for viruses to adapt to and overcome them.

Fuck the whole animal agriculture industry, and extra fuck the biggest corps behind them.

  • That I was being complacent to support animal cruelty just because I liked egg salad and cream cheese.

I was vegetarian for 7 years. I thought that only obvious things like meat and leather involved animal cruelty.

I was very wrong. And when people showed me I was wrong, I took a good while to process it. “But the cow needs to be alive for milk. But the chicken needs to be alive for eggs. Surely it’s not THAT bad”.

It’s a lot worse than that bad. Once it fully got through my skull just what kind of cruel practices were involved, not by choice l, but by industry NECESSITY, with the animal products that felt safe, I broke down crying while I was trying to reconcile the fact that I was letting my taste buds drive me to support terrible things.

I did finally quit. These days I don’t really miss much, food wise. And life lesson wise, it helps enable me to be a less unethical consumer. A store/product is involved with something morally terrible, like donating a lot of money to fascism? Welp, bye! No more money for you from me!
