World News@lemmy.world•Women are being abandoned by their partners on hiking trails. What’s behind ‘alpine divorce’?English
85·2 months agoIts the absurd generalizations that are the problem.
AI has free reign to scrape Lemmy or any federated site. But at least the data being scraped isn’t curated and moderated by a massive advertising platform.
They killed my favorite app “rif”, so I started using the web version. Then they made the web version almost unusable with the “open this in our app” banner on every page which was the last straw for me. Can’t use third party apps, and the web version is constantly nagging you to not use it? Stupid. Now I just use Lemmy on Firefox and have had 0 issues.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why aren't people harassing marketers?English
1·7 months agoI still get unsolicited phone calls regularly and report it to my carriers spam reporting channels. It never ends!! Phone numbers from multiple states ive never been to. This is indeed still a problem and carriers are trying to make money off of it by selling upgraded tools/apps to mitigate it.

111·7 months agoIts comments like this that made me finally go and purchase The Outer Worlds a few months ago. Going in blind and within 10 minutes I’m thinking, what is this bullshit?!?! I have yet to try the right game yet but that always makes me laugh.

2·8 months agoI use the coffee grinders at WinCo regularly in AZ. I’m surprised to not see many other comments saying so! They also have a fantastic bulk section. I hope it never goes away.

3·8 months agoAre you calling non tippers the assholes, and not the business owners or practice of tipping in general? Tipping is out of control and a stupid obligation as it is currently being used.
Sure, I just can’t help but imagine how I personally would react if this became common for all patients.
I think I would be offended if some robot came up to try and provide emotional support. Its fake, and reminds me that our society values profit over human life. This should not be normalized as a necessity due to missing money that is going to the pockets of administrators, owners, insurance, and whoever else…this is pathetic.

3·8 months agoNothing in the image itself, but someone else posted this link: https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/09/19/tear-gas-protesters-broadview-ice/
Curtis Evans, of Evanston, carries a U.S. flag through gas deployed by federal officers as they clear protesters from the entrance of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview on Sept. 19, 2025. Evans said he was a Marine during President Ronald Reagan’s term. (Stacey Wescott/Chicago Tribune)

81·8 months agoHow can you tell? Just curious as a Marine veteran. We used to do jumping jacks and pushups in the gas room until the last man couldn’t take it anymore. Those were the days!
Edit: Oops nm, I found the source on this guy.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some things for a new home owner to consider getting early on?English
2·9 months agoThis is all so thoughtful, thank you for sharing!
I was thrilled when I bought my first home just a few years back and they had a single page hand written note explaining a couple of minor issues, some unusual plumbing, and an apology for a small hole in the wall done by accident during move out day. It was a relief just for some insight, since I didn’t really know what to do with a house and was a bit scatterbrained already.
This would be above and beyond expectations in the best way possible. Thanks for the reminder for me to get this started.

World News@lemmy.world•'Negotiating with Donald Trump is like playing chess with a pigeon'English
23·11 months agoI recently saw a pigeon doing its mating ritual trying to attract another pigeon in my yard. That other pigeon had been dead for over a week! That didn’t stop the mating attempt. This is also how I picture trump.

DUI. I was dismissed during jury selection, i think from questioning the accuracy and last calibration date of the breathalyzer device when they asked what I would want to know about during the trial.
That was after someone else was pleading emotionally with the judge/attorneys to dismiss them because of a family member being killed by a drunk driver. The jury member said they would be unfair and vote guilty no matter what, and the judge argued their perspective was important for the jury. They were selected.
No conclusions here. It was an interesting process and I was only there an hour or two.
