  • I have a heart condition that I get an ECG (electro cardiogram) done for every 6 months or so. It’s just an ultrasound on your heart. They always take mine from a bunch of different angles and a bunch of different types of pictures.

But I was recently in the hospital and told the technician that their machine was loud. She looked baffled. I told her I can hear the ultrasound and hers is the loudest I’ve encountered. Apparently I’m the only person she’s ever done work on (or however to say that) that’s been able to hear it.

So I guess that is my super power. Or I’m just autistic, as apparently many autists can hear very high pitched noises.

But the ultrasound is pretty cool. The frequencies and the pitch will change depending on what photo mode they’re in. Like a doppler mode is all pewpewpewpewpew while the normal mode is all eeeeeeeeeeeee. Lol. It’s hard to explain.

  • Mine was all over the place to be honest.

Couldn’t afford college, so I joined the military as a weather forecaster - which is what I’d wanted to go to college for anyway.

After my contract, I tried to get into a college for meteorology, but because of the way some “classes” are graded for the military associates you can get, my GPA was technically too low for that program to accept me. I didn’t really have another choice for a college at the time, so I did a ton of research on bls.gov and decided to get a degree in geology.

Gosh I loved that program. But unfortunately I got really sick midway through and spent a lot of time in the hospital. What I was diagnosed with basically meant that I would never be able to be a geologist, so I had to swap gears again.

Instead I found GIS and got my degree in technical geography. Took a ton of internships that landed me with a good resume.

Now I work for a utilities company, making maps that are used internally. Since it’s utility work, we’re union and we have great benefits and flexibility. It’s really worked out for me

  • Arcade racers that aren’t just… Bad.

Burnout Revenge was a beloved game of my childhood. You had bonuses from wrecking your foes, got bonuses for creating wrecks, and for near death experiences. And there was an awesome mode where you would launch your car into a scene to cause as much damage as possible.

Midnight Club 2 where you could customize your cars and race them on fun tracks, but could also just beep around the open world.

Maybe it’s nostalgia, but I would love a fun racing game that doesn’t have a GTA attached to it.

  • If you have an instant pot or something similar, pressure cooking eggs using a 5-5-5 method is also super great.

Put the eggs in a steamer tray or little rack- as long as they’re not touching the bottom. Pour in a cup of water, then seal the lid and make sure it’s not set to venting. Set it to cook on high pressure for 5 minutes (I do 4, actually because I like it a little jammy in the yolk).

It takes ~5 min for the pressure to come up, 5 min cook time, then you give 5 min for the pressure to naturally come down before venting and taking eggs out to put in cool water.

I’ve personally never used an ice bath and my eggs come out gorgeous every time.
